Discernment of whether another vehicle is traveling in your blind spot while driving is a key to staying safe on the highway. The blind spot is the area behind you on either side of your vehicle where your side mirrors don't pick up any reflection. The only way you can actually see a vehicle in this position is to actually look, and that is not always safe to do.

The Ford Blind Spot Information system will automatically detect any vehicle that is within 10 feet behind you on either side. This can be a tremendous help especially if you are traveling at any rate of speed and are getting ready to make a turn or change lanes.

The Blind Spot mechanism from Ford is not meant to replace your vigilance, but to enhance it. First of all, you don't have to look back over your shoulder, and you can concentrate on your driving while looking ahead.
